Water Proofing Patches
Any suggestions? I’ve used Lee Liquid Alex as well as beeswax and each seem to do the job. Are there other options?

Why?
I have used Blair # 105 spray fixative to "waterproof" but it is really a complete waste of time in the long run. At least that's my opinion.

Re: Water Proofing Patches
I was on a deer hunt one season and got caught in a downpour for quite a while. Every one of my paper patch rounds got ruined by the rain. Every since then when I hunt paper patch I coat them with Rooster Jacket and haven't had a problem with them getting wet.

If you really want waterproofness, cooking parchment is far better than any lube.

Re: Water Proofing Patches
Brent is correct on the cooking parchment paper, it make excellent patch material
I use it on hunting loads here on the Texas Gulf Coast,-----------------just humidity here will render normal paper patches swollen to a no fit condition
A coat of wax and a run through a sizing die works very well also

Re: Water Proofing Patches
I used rooster a few years ago and it worked well but I pulled a few and some bullets came out but not patch.
Might have been the sticky nature of lube?
Later on I used it then put a greasy lube over dried rooster and had no more issues.

Re: Water Proofing Patches
For hunting when I carry extra PP bullets in my pocket when snow or rain might get them wet I wrap my bullets with 100% bond or rag vellum. It's water resistant and tough enough that I can put a taper crimp in the little deeper seated bullets so they don't fall out.
I never had a problem when snow got in the pocket ruining the patch.

got a bottle of Rooster jacket you can have. used it for few and didn't like the messing around. I just put them in a zip lock bag, no swelling, no ruined papers. Put a piece of electrical tape over your muzzle and go hunting.

Re: Water Proofing Patches
Gents,
Just to make sure I understand this correctly, your talking about trying to waterproof PP loads for hunting correct?
When this was initially posted it first thought was That you were talking about muzzleloader patches (as you can tell at this point I’m a GG guy!), was scratching my head on that one.
Realized you were talking about PP loads so a couple questions.
1. Do you apply your waterproofing to the whole patch before wrapping bullet? Both sides?
2. Apply it to patch after bullet wrapped?
3. Apply it to exposed portion of bullet once inserted into case?
4. Brent, do you mean wrap the bullet with wax paper, and that is the patch? What does that do for accuracy?
For my CF loads I put tape over my muzzle, amaizing how many times the cartridge will still come out with moisture on it after a rain.
Cheers!
Wade

Re: Water Proofing Patches
Wade, if must lube a patch, do it after rolling.
NOT wax paper - cooking parchment. Very different beasts. No noticeable effects on accuracy.
