So ( as the youngsters start every sentence) I bought a set of CAL bench rest shooting sticks
I was using a heavy and $$ adjustable rest, needed more height
because of the heavy cement benches at my range I glued a piece of heavy felt to the bottom. EZ and cheap to do.
yesterday I tried them. AND, I also had hammered the barrel to find the 'dead' spot' and marked it 4 inches from the muzzle.
The new CAL rest allowed me rest it to out to the mark.
I also used a two hand butt rest against my shoulder.
groups shrunk to under 2 inches on all targets finally....centered and round.
I know you experts all know this, but I think the wood rest allows the gun to recoil easily and
it's repeatable, while the heavy rest did not. ???? who knows.
just FYI...Ken

Re: wood bench rest
I would like to see a picture of your CAL bench rest shooting stick's.
I have a set of CAT's bench rest sticks, but I am not familiar with the ones you are using. A link to a source would be appreciated.

Re: wood bench rest
make that CAT's shooting sticks.
catshootingsticks.com
really good quality and about $90 plus shipping.
while they come with leather covered wood where the gun rests, I put some leather around that point.
They do sell leather covers , $16 I think, and I would get those.
again, heavy felt glued on the base to keep it from slipping and more level on my ranges cement tables. it worked.
