could not get the size for mine....
you can get original replacements on line if you need one. just replace it.
I once found a trigger guard screw, unused, 130 yrs old for my original 74. same size for the carbine.
about $10

right about not drilling the tang. too weak....I've done antique gun repairs/restoration for decades, and I will not change an original.
wish I could offer more advice, but you'll just have to keep looking for a screw that fits.
You could..
get another original screw...cut it in the middle...silver solder a spacer to lengthen it. put it in an electric drill and turn it round and smooth to match the diameter of the original. save the original.
I've done such repairs replacing the heads of original screws that were buggered.
