case stretcher

Post by kenny s »

ok , just FYI about the 40 cal case stretcher for $39.95 from BA.
It only fits RCBS dies, not lyman.

I watched the video, tried everything, and the 40 70 cases would not stretch.
You need an RCBS, full length sizing die for this to work. And with that, it probably will.
I talked to BA, great as usual, and they said just to return it for credit, and I will.

Nothing wrong with BA, or the product, or price
as long as you already have the RCBS full length sizing die on hand. If not, you'll have to go another $70 bucks and I didn't' want to.

nope, the BA version only works with RCBS dies. I have Lyman dies and it did not fit.
the top sections are very different.
Not saying it would not work with the right die, but buying another 40 70 SS RCBS die for $70 plus the $40 for the stretcher went past my will to try it.

Kenny call Starline and request that they make .40-70 cases. I been bugging them on and off for a spell. If they get enough calls for it they might get the notion to tool up for it.

I don't shoot GG bullets so the 405 Hornady cases work great for me but I did make a base swage die to swage the base diameter down. The thicker case walls are just right for the bore diameter PP bullets. Yes I do loose some powder capacity but I don't see this as a problem.

May I suggest that "WE" ask for 40-72 length cases since that would potentially end up
as a larger demand since people can use for 40-72 or shorten them by 0.058 for true 40-70 chambers.

AND , forgot: the 2.580 cases could also serve In 405Win chambers.

40/72 and 405 have different rim dimensions.
I suspect that the 405 was made with bigger thicker rims than the 40/72 so it could not chamber in 40/72 chambers.
this because 405 was loaded to higher pressure.
