TROUBLE WITH MY SITE PICTURE ON FULL BUCKHORN MOUNTED ON QUIGLEY

Good Day all

I finally received my 45-110 Quigley and absolutely love, well worth the wait! I picked up from our local gun shop here in Colorado Springs the “SHOOTIN DEN” after my muzzle loading deer season which I did happen to harvest a nice little young 5X4 buck with my .50 Cal in-line. Any way on to what I need help with. My eyes ain’t quite what they use to be and am having trouble seeing a good site picture with the full buckhorn site I am utilizing that I ordered on the rifle. I know this was not standard on the Quigley but mine is suited for me and not a standard Quigley before folks tell me the semi buckhorn was what it came with. I also purchased Montana vintage arms front site inserts to try different apertures up front. Now on to the meat and gravy did find a few apertures I like and can see fairly well but when I line up with bottom V in buckhorn I am shootin any where from 4 to 6 inches low at 100 yards this should be my dead on position on the full buckhorn. This is when I line up with a horizontal line just at top of V with my front bead inline with that covering my 1” bull at 100yds. If I place my bead in center of antlers or buck horn arc. I am then hitting right around the bull or bull, this position should be the 150 yard position and site picture. Please correct me or school me if I am wrong but this is how I was taught to utilize the full buckhorn and works well on my other rifles. 1 more ? For folks when I was in the Military we use to utilize a smudge pot to blacken sites to keep sun glare down to a minimal. Is there something out there that I can utilize in a similar fashion to darken my iron sites to minimize or eliminate sun glare on my sites? Do appreciate any help with these issues.

Respectfully

Greg

Shooting a globe front with the barrel sight doesn't usually work out very good.
You might try standing the ladder up and seeing what your impact is.
You might also consider getting a set of needle files and widening the rear sight notch a touch, then put the blade front sight back on the rifle .

Otherwise, I would put a tang sight on that rifle in a microsecond. Why not?

A candle will smoke the sights for you. Though easily rubbed off.

Thank you much for the insight, I already wear bifocal glasses now. I was speaking with some folks today and have a couple things to try next time to the range. Thanks all

Off topic reply, as a retired AE1 I'm curious what is a CM1 rate? sounds like a black shoe rate to me.

as a old guy having to use 1.5 readers now I have the same prob. have a trapdoor with ramhorn rear and a blade front with a hood can see both sights but target is a bit blurry. Am thinking to try the 0.5 glasses from Amazon trick.

i have never liked Buckhorn sights and have viewed them as a style rather than a bonifide sight type. The ears are completely useless in my opinion and worse than that, are actually an impediment on running game shooting. As far as open sights go the British Platinum center line shallow V are among the very best barrel sights. These work well with either an Ivory bead or Partridge style blade up front. The later will hold elevation better in all light conditions, especially when brass backed, than will a bead.

Mike I agree in part.
But they do provide several sight reference points that allows a shooter to instantly sight in at a pre determent distance if one would learn how to use them.
