I'm in the process of working up a new .45-70 load with the Lyman 457125 (515gr) and also trying out some Shuetzen powder as well as a new lot of Goex, both 2F.
1st load
68 gr Shuetzen 2F
WW brass
.030 fiber wad
magnum primer
.125 compression
Average Velocity 1483
2nd load
68gr Goex 2F
WW brass
.030 fiber wad
Magnum primer
.300 compression
Average velocity 1488
The Shuetzen 2F looks more like Goex 3F. Most velocities I've seen posted or published for the same bullet or one in the same weight range are usually 200 or more FPS slower. Both shot well if I did my part.
Are these velocities normal?

I think you may have issues with your chronograph.

Re: Are these velocities normal?
Your numbers are probably about 300 fps too fast.

Set Chronograph out 20 feet, wads can give you some funky readings that will screw them up.

From my experience using that powder and that bullet, your velocities are pretty close to 200 ft. fast.

Thanks to all. I thought they seemed high.
