Once you get tired of lubing bullets and cleaning lead from your barrel, try PP bullets!! More powder, faster, flatter and WAY better looking!! .443-.444 bore dia bullet wrapped in your flavor of paper.

Gunna catch hell for that!!!.....but its worth it.

Once I get a great accurate Creedmoor load to hit dingers way out there, Ill experiment with other stuff.

I get a kick and a lot of great information reading this sight and talking with the successful shooters of the Black Art.

Dave and Chris at Buffalo Arms are also a wealth of good info.

Thanks guys.

OP, what distance are you shooting?
X2 on Old E 2F powder.
What are you doing for fouling control?

You have a very good powder in the Swiss. And I'm not a salesman for Swiss. I have several Shilohs, the last one being a 45-70. Go figure! I'm using a Brooks Creedmoor with reduced top band. 66 grs. of Swiss 1/2 compressed to a smidge over .10 and it will ring a target at 1023 yds. all day long. The postel or money bullet the same. Hard fouling...never had an issue with Swiss ever. I'm sure the OE is quite capable of doing the same. This, my way is the only way BS lately on here is getting tiresome.

I have a Shiloh 45-70 in 30" barrel I use for silhouette and mid-range. I shoot 62 grs Swiss 1.5 and 540 grain Money bullets. That load works pretty well. Just experiment and see what your rifle likes. They are all different. I tried that load in a rolling block and it went all over the place. The Winter 2019 issue of Black Powder Cartridge News has an article "How I Load the 45-90 for Long Range Competition" by Zack Taylor. The techniques apply equally well to any black powder .45 competition target rifle. I seldom see an article that starts at the beginning and walks you through casting, cartridge length, compression, loading, and to load development all in one place and in only three pages.

Thanks Charlie. I figure all of these premium powders are good. I was looking for bullets shape and velocities vs powder compression loading or not.
I am a newbie to BPCR, not loading and shooting so I understand everyone has found success one way or another. Guidance from experience is what I am after, NOT the holy grail which we will never find or we would all be the champions of the BPCR world.
I do appreciate all you guys input. See ya round the patch.

Careful Dennis, your reply/offer certainly was not pithy following an old adage of careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

But you do illuminate a point that often requires us to be reminded of occasionally, that is the best way to get into long range shooting is talking to and shooting with those that are currently engaged in long range shooting.

Raven,
I noticed that no one made the suggestion to right away go to Wiping
Between Shots.
If you do that, the so called increased fouling problem of Swiss powder
virtually dissolves with your one or two wet patches wiping between shots
for grease groove bullets.
OR, if going to the Paper Patch route, wipe two wet, one dry patch.
Presto. NO hard fouling buildup whatever the powder.
And same goes for Old E, or Std Goex,. or Wano, or Schuetzen powder, etc.
For my money so far, the more expensive Swiss is still the ultimate way to go.
requires minimal compression for optimum burn, compared to ALL the other powders.
I find that factor Very Good.
the OLD E does have followers like "whats is name" from down south, and
Yes it also can be made to perform, too.
( Yes rdneck, I am funning with you. Just funning!)

Zack, I hear ya, once in a while we see a Steeve and a Steeve and the effort that is put forth is well justified. I hope that any little advise I might give will help new shooters in this great sport.

I think I will order some OE 2f and give it a go. Ill see what I can find in the form of Postell bullets in the 535gr weight.
69 grs 1 1/2 OE works better for me with grease groove bullets over 500 grs in the 45-70's.

You may want to think real hard about taking Dennis up on his offer to go shoot with him.

Yes, from the point of view of someone who is pretty new to this sport, it is a god-send when someone who has been there and done that takes an interest in helping you get started and make progress! :D
