Simpler tang sight

Post by august west »

Is there a source for a good, simple tang sight, something along the lines of the DT sight in the photo? I have a Hunter's Rifle on order want something like this for it. I know there are economy Soule sights out there. The original Business and Hunters rifles often had nice sliding dovetail peeps without an eyecup - pretty slick.

Look at the sights offered by www.theoriginalsightcompany.com Tony has one very close to the one you show. He is close to production on many sights previously offered by Carmen Axtell who he bought the tooling and drawings from.

Didn't some of those original tang sights lack any windage adjustment though which means they will probably need a wind gauge front sight? Although the one pictured appears to have windage adjustment.

My sporting tang has a sliding dovetail windage adjustment. It has no knob you have to tap it to move it.

Thanks for the reply Dean. I did not know of rear tang, dove tail windage adjustments, having never seen one.

Shiloh used to offer a sporting tang #101 with windage. Loosen the eye cup to make elevation changes and loosen the eye cup and the small screw to adjust windage. The staff is marked for your elevation adjustments.

Thanks isn't enough - I'm so glad to find out about the Original Sight company - just exactly what I was looking for.
