Arnie,

Have you shot that rifle out to the 1K yet?
I was sure impressed with that rifle yesterday.

I'm always interested to hear the specs on any .38-50 that is shooting well. Particularly twist rate and bullet weight, etc.

A bit warm yesterday I suspect.

Just damp? I was only painting and I was soaked and dripping. Ugly stuff.

Speaking of PP bullets I still need to get that 303 perking with them! It shoots GGs and jacket bullets well to groove diameter but so far doesn't seem to like any PP bullets tried. Tried two patch to groove bullets so guess the next thing to try is patch to bore and see what happens. It doesn't just shoot them bad, the last two I've tried have key holed at 25 yards. Never experienced this before with any kind of bullet.
I was using cooking parchment for patch paper which was the correct thickness but perhaps that's the reason.

Let me know Kurt and I'll do it along with take you up to Birchwood range and let you fart around with my Martini cadets or what ever I have you want to shoot. I bet You'd get a kick out of the Bowling ball mortar! Speaking of beer I just bought my son a six pack of AK amber a few weeks ago to test the railroad spike bottle openers I made up for Bob Engelbach and Mike Milhouland.
I have a real deficiency personally in that I never have liked the taste of beer or liquor but every one around me in my family sure does. Kind of relegated me to being a life time designated driver to get them all home and to bed! It does leave a lot more money for guns, powder and lead though.

I always tell my friends that offer me a beer that even though I never cared for the taste my parents and brother drank enough suds to float the "Missouri" battle wagon !

Mike Beer goes back to a very early age for me. I was born in Germany and we got the water from a open dug town well that got contaminated from farm buildings surrounding it. At that time the land owners did not have the barns on the farm land, the cow barn was attached to the living quarters in town. Well I got Fever Typhoid when I was 7 that just about put me under. From that time on my Mother cooked with beer and we drank it. She would send me to the tavern with a wooded yolk over my shoulder with two buckets hanging on chains with a wood cross in the buckets to keep the beer from slopping out and get them filled with beer.
To this day I still like the heavy dark beer. Maybe this is why my hair is not graying too fast yet at age 80
I never acquired the taste for the hard stuff.

Carolyn has been bugging me to head north again. We used to go just about every other year but 08 was the last time we made it. We spent most of the time going to the end of every road and over tractor trails. We love that country.
We spent most of the time around the 40 mile and around Central.
We haven't made the North Slope yet.

Wow, what a great personal story! Thanks for sharing that Kurt, I love to hear that very interesting personal history stuff! Makes one appreciate the good ole US of A! Reminds me of my dad talking about going through the depression. He said that while he was dating my mom they had to go out in the hen house gather a dozen eggs and sell them at the market so they could go to the movie picture house.
These punks raising all the hell around the country need to experience some of this stuff and they'd be chaining their tune in a big hurry! I think their sentence ought to be a year in Venezuela for an attitude adjustment!

I picked up the lead today and it is premo stuff. It's the old communication cable sheath lead that used to go under Cook inlet near Anchorage. He pulled up another counter weight of lead he wants me to take as well. It's probably 3-4 inches thick and about two square feet. I couldn't even tip it up side ways off the pallet. He said he guessed it weighted 6-700 lbs. Some of you math wizes could probably give me an approximation of the weight if you would. The lead sheathing was the 400 lbs he was talking about and then decided to get rid of the counter weight lead. Don't know if it is pure or not yet without hardness testing it. He is going to cut it up in chunks I can man handle and will pick it up Thursday. He wouldn't take a dime for it which is cool beyond reason. Needless to say he won't have to pay for any more gun mechanic-ing but knowing George he could do it himself anyway! He's one of the ole heavy equipment mechanics than can fix about anything!

I need to stop doing this as I have many more pounds of lead than I can ever shoot up in whats left of my time here on earth, then my family will have the burden of getting rid of it. Hard to turn down good , free lead though! The body is 70 years old but the mind never seemed to get much past 18!

No mdeland, never ever turn down free lead. It will never lose it's value when you don't pay for it. That can be said for damn few things. bobw
