Is Faster or slower generally best?

Id like a smattering of opinion, Is bullet velocity faster or slower better for accuracy in general?

I know bullet length and shape have some affect, but I am looking for general learned opinion: FASTER OR SLOWER V0?

I know that in general with ladder testing etc, what I want to know is a GENERAL consensus on what the group has learned.

Best MV? Just right! For the distance you're shooting at, of course! MV isn't important, accuracy is. Long range shooting does require higher velocities, but that load won't necessarily be best at 100...

Think for the most part "the group consensus" is find the load combination that shoots the best in your rifle, velocity be damned.

Thats why tang sights are so high. Any velocity any setting. You and your rifle pick.

I think velocity level is range dependent generally. Light loads often work very well for short range but fall apart at extended distances. In general I feel the farther out the target the faster the bullet should be moving to compensate for all the deterioration in ballistics like rotational velocity, drop , spin drift, deflection , yaw and etc.

I shoot 108.5gr @ 100 yards and 108.5 @ 1000yds.....because its accurate. speed will allow you to lower your rear staff but, if it blows out your group whats the point?? Now, really slow even if it groups well, you may find that you dont have enough sight to reach your intended target. I would load it up til it the group opens, drop it a tick and run it, thats what THAT rifle likes, the next may like it hotter.

I see with the .22 low velocity has less wind drift out to 200 yards than the HV .22 but I can't say this using the BPCR because I use the same load.

Unfortunately, all things are not equal with our bullet velocity. With most high-power shooting, faster is better to minimize wind-drift. With BP (and HV.22RF loads) we have the added complication of our bullets invariably going thru the 'transonic' region as they start out at higher than the speed-of-sound and pass thru the disruptive airflows in the transonic region as they slow down to lower than the speed-of-sound. That's one reason why developing a load thru testing is often more difficult with our loads compared to high-power.
