PP load for 45-100

Post by mongo40 »

for those that are shooting this round, how many grains are you dropping into the case, with my 45-70 I'm dropping 80 gr of 2f in it, could easily do that with the 100 and just use a wad to fill the space but curious what the ones that do shoot 100 are dropping. I'm using a 500gr ppb if that matters.

108.5gr swiss 1.5F .060 poly wad, fed 210m, compress .080, and the DD bullet I sent you. a .060 wad should be right even with the case mouth at that point or just a tick below mine is around .005-.007 below. You may want to adjust that so you get .040 compression to start with and work your way up in charge weight. I also put a o-ring around my drop tube as to keep powder from bouncing out of the case.
Ohh and my cases are not sized.

Thanks Matt, I might work up to that but planned on starting a little lower in grains first, I have a leather washer I cut to slip over the end of my drop tube and I put an o-ring on the second hook up above the mount so I can use it to adjust the height of the drop tube so it sets just in the mouth of the case and the leather washer is at the bottom resting on the case mouth to stop anything from bouncing out, seems to work real good so far.

in my 45/100/2.4" i put 98 gn 1.5f or 1.0f swiss, compressed about 1/10".
when breech seating, i use 100 gns.
of course the 45/100/2.6" will take more.
