Long range paper target configuration
I'm going to be receiving a Shiloh Sharps, .45-70, 43" Bbl that I won on Rock Island Auction a couple of weeks ago. It's my first Sharps though I have shot a Pedersoli for the fun of it.
When I get the rifle I want to make a chamber cast first to determine how much throat/lead I may have in order to determine how much bullet protrusion I can get away with in the case.
I would like to put test loads on paper, say 300-400 yards. Is there a particular target configuration (4'x4') that is better than another?

You can buyMR3 targets, the official 300 yard target, from several sources. Midway comes to mind. National Target Company as well, and maybe Creedmoor sports

Buy a money bullet mould from BACO in .459 with first two bands reduced, you can seat the bullet out further, more powder then.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, none of those places lists an MR3 target...?Don McDowell wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:15 pm You can buyMR3 targets, the official 300 yard target, from several sources. Midway comes to mind. National Target Company as well, and maybe Creedmoor sports

I have some 4'x4' paper and all I'm really after is the target configuration. Is it just a bullseye with rings and if so how far apart are the rings?

.. Dont worry about the 'out of stock' flag on the design as most are made on demand. Other than the Christmas - New Year closure ...an order through to BACo will likely have you that mould in 2-3 weeks unless they are caught up again . Great moulds too.

Midway does have the repair centers for the SR3, so does national and american.
On the mould, call them and place the order, Jim will get it in the production que and you'll likely have it shortly.

Also, www.champchoice.com has targets. look to the "High Power" targets. They are also used for BPTR
Yes, the SR3C is the 300 yds repair center. Repair centers are easier to handle and cheaper than the full SR3 target.
For practice, etc you can simply staple repair centers on cardboard, etc.
Alternative is the M63C which is a 600yds repair center reduced to 300. It is actually cheaper than the SR3C
