Currently I’m having another Shiloh rifle built. It will be topped with a 23” 10X MVA scope. My previous three Shilohs have been equipped with MVA’s tang sights, and globe front sights that are equipped with built-in spirit levels.
I assume with this new scoped rifle the vertical crosshair in the scope with be the ‘leveling’ device, as it is in conventional modern scoped rifles. Is my thinking correct?

Yes that's correct, but the cross hair can be adjusted for level as well, unlike modern scopes.

What mounts are you getting? What spacing? What caliber?

Rifle cant can be very deceptive. When using the crosshairs as a level you are assuming that the end of the target range is level from left to right which may not be true. On my 6.5 284 F class rifle I have a bubble level attached to the scope. I am not suggesting you do that with a Sharps, just be careful what you assume particularly at distances out to 1000 yards.

I actually have 2 of my scopes mounted with levels. Had the company print me spacers to fit the MVA scopes.

Charlie, that's just what I'm wanting to know. Can you post a photo please, if you can?

I have two competition shooters, first a 12# 45-90, and secondly a 16# 45-110. I don't prefer one over the other. They both shoot better than my abilities. I'm strictly a pp shooter. Both are equipped with the MVA extra long range buffalo tang sights, and globe front sights. I'm building the new Shiloh for long range plinking, and midrange hunting purposes, and maybe a little paper target shooting too. It's a 16# 45-110. The barrel is tapped with 10.34" c-c spacing. Regarding the scope I was advised by a lady there at MVA, a fellow silhouette shooter, to get (for my purposes) the 23" 2000 series 'a.' scope in 10X, with not the 6 or the 10, but the 8-power crosshairs. She said if I didn't like the 8X, I could swap it out, up or down. The blocks are MVA scope blocks, rear mount is Silhouette Style Malcolm, front is Win. mount. She said this will do fine out to 1,500 - 2,000 yards with the 16# 30" barrel. And, still be good at 100 yards for initial load development. Hope everyone's answered.

use a small level attached to rear of scope got them from brown ells . the level needs a bushing to reduce to .750 and mounts under the scope art

Getting the advise for the "A" scope at 8X is good advise. I just got a new 10X "A" scope last fall and I don't like it, it is darker than my 8X MVA 3000 and also the field of view is down for the chicken line, It lost three chicken shooting them out of turn at the last match Plus it's dark enough for my vision that it amplifies my dark floater. I have the B-5 scope coming that should have been here last Saturday but the truck must have hit a snow bank and it's delayed. I like the B-5 win scopes and mounts over the longer A scope.
As far as the level. I shoot with both eyes open and I can see the spirit level my front globe sight has with the left eye while looking through the scope. This works fine for me doing that.

Robert I've found it best to use a regular mva spirit level sight on the front but with no insert in the sight. I use the spirit level on the sight to level the rifle.

Chris, can you see the spirit level on the front of the barrel when you’re looking through your scope?

No, not through the scope. When in prone position and just before the shot is released, I will focus on it with my non shooting eye to ensure the rifle is level. Then I look through the scope and let it fly
