There is some discussion going on over on Shooters Forum on this black powder substitute. The info is that it is a good BP sub and loads like BP volume, velocity is very stable gives good accuracy and consistency and clean no BP type fouling. So have any of you folks tried it? Some folks on there have used it in Trapdoors and 45 Colts?

I’m with Woody on this. Other than availability in gun stores, I’ve never found any advantage to substitutes.

We shoot Pyrodex for a few of reasons..It's cheaper that good Black powder.
We can buy Pyrodex at our local wally world.
Pyrodex is a legal BP Substitute in BPCR Silhouette.
We are friends with our insurance agent. She is very pro gun, but having containers around the place labeled EXPLOSIVE vs Flammable might change her and my insurance rates.

I would be interested in the Tin Star research/reviews.
We have no idea how available any shooting components will be in the future, and more knowledge is a good thing.

Tin Star is NOT a BP substitute, it is a bulky smokeless powder in the same class as Hodgdons Trail Boss, and loaded in the same fashion.

Why change???

Keep in mind that things out of your control can change. It's never a bad idea to have alternatives just in case of........ Investigating an alternative doesn't mean you'll change to it but if you have to, you might.

It might also be an alternative for my 500 Smith!?
