Thought I’d share the results of the ladder test with the BACO 409420M2 Money Bullet. The rifle is a Shiloh Sharps 1874. After scrutinizing the data my best guess for the “sweet spots” are shot #4 (53.5gr) & #18 (60.5gr). BTW, prior to the test I’ve shot the same bullet in several silhouette matches & recently shot a master score (33/40) using 56.0grs (shot #9).

wayne,
2,3, and 4 are close with 3 in the middle.
'shot 18 looks good because it is low in the group of 17, 18 and 19.
however you r good score suggests that if in doubt that load has promise as well.

Wayne, 53 grains is my 40-65 accuracy load for BPCR.

I just checked my notes and shot #3 (53.0gr) is the one I meant to go with on the low end. As Bruce noted, it's in the middle of best group. I plan to load up & shoot 10 rounds + fowlers of #3 (53.0gr), #18 (60.5gr) & 10 loads using 56.0grs to compare the results.

I'm watching this for my 40 70 SS in my Shiloh 74
I was using 63 swiss 1 1/2, good load.
03 card and two newspaper wads.

I ran out of swiss and have a bunch of OE 1 1/2 and I'm trying that.

what does everyone think of the Swiss vs the OE
Swiss meters better of course.
every shot weighed.
and a BA 390 money in 1 1/6 cast and weighed to within 2 or 3 grains.
tks..Ken

Dick,

Yes, as was noted in the photo.  I'm laughing because I also seem to overlook information more & more as I pile on the years. Take care.

have you tried OE powder, and also what mix do you use, 1 in 16 or 1 in 20.
ordering mold 409420m2 now,

I use a 408400 BA,, I think the 409 will be tighter in my Shiloh 74.

I'll give it a try. Ken

I’m going to show my ignorance here but i know nothing about ladder testing. I just test different load combinations for groups, maybe that’s ignorant or archaic but that’s what I do. What exactly are you looking for and what makes #4 and #18 so special?

Thanks.

I'm with Vectorman. I don't understand what you are looking for. I shoot different loads on different targets and look for the best grouping. Then I retest the best ones to try to fine the best ONE.

John,

How the heck does that work? Sound way too simple to me, shooting groups, pffff! :D I'm kind of fascinated by the reading of the bones method, I don't understand it, but it sure seems like it should work. :?

Do as you like as you will , but the use of a different target for each group or pair would give you instant visual analysis of the results. Looking at your targets for more than a few seconds would having me looking for the Tylenol. Bobw
