What Are We Seeing?

Post by Tuscarora »

Gentlemen,

I have never seen this before after cleaning the barrel. What I initially thought was lead has shown no response to tight-patching with turpentine, or anything else. Then I thought possibly fouling from HDPE wads. Couldn't remove it with acetone, Kroil, or again, anything else.

This is the first cleaning after changing from a harder to softer alloy of 20:1. I would see a decent amount of fouling with the harder alloy, which would wipe right out, but never this.

The discoloration is only on top of the lands for the most part.

Just one more thought after two days of scratching my head.

This barrel only has approximately 330 rounds down the barrel, either GG or PP.

Is this the blueing beginning to wear through?

Exactly,
Blueing wearing off.

Load and shoot the thing. You are fine.

Every now and then the lightbulb flickers on. All I had to do was finally ask the question to a few hundred people before the actual reality of the situation dawns on me. Yeah. Always great to be the new guy!

Thanks Kenny.

Kenny, I hear you have released a book. Where do I find my copy?
