Boomer Moulds

Post by SSShooter »

Just received, cast, loaded and shot my first bullets from a Boomer mold. I ordered a 40cal mold made to my spec's and the bullets cast with 20-1 alloy are within 0.0005" per my digital vernier. Can't complain about that.
I ask for length that would result in 330-340gr for shooting chickens. Leo Bumphrey, Boomer's owner, suggest a 3-groove bullet with 3-GGs. The bullet casts at 334.5gr for me at 775F.
The 2nd best part is it is a very easy mold to cast with. Out of my initial 50 bullets cast only 3 of them had to be tapped out of the mold after opening. That's as good as my best nose-pour mold.
But, the very best part is at 200yd it is a 1-moa bullet when shot from my 40-65. Very pleased with the 'on-paper' results. Now have a good 'chicken bullet' with minimum recoil. Now I just have to do my part (the big 'X' in the chicken equation).

First shot outside cluster but she shoots 1 MOA once the barrel is fouled.

Don't know about the 50cal bullets, but the bands on my 40cal bullet measure 0.409" on all three bands, as ordered.
