1875 Sharps

I have two CSA 1875 rifles. One in .40-65 and the other was converted to .22 LR from CF. Both are very accurate and have excellent single triggers.

I get some flack from "friends" about shooting a rifle that "never was", but then I just whip their butts and their high walls with my '75 and they tend to be rather quiet!

Both rifles have been rebarreled, the .40-65 has a Badger 18-twist and the .22 is a Green Mountain.
I did tune up the triggers and they are, for me, great. I do prefer a single trigger.

Putting an MVA B5 scope on the .22 has really shrunk my groups, almost in half! It will hold well under a inch at 100 yards, that's as far as I've shot it since recently putting the scope on it.

With a 6X Leatherwood scope on my .40-65 is a sub MOA rifle at 200 meters. Since switching to paper patch bullets I have several matches with this rifle, it IS my most accurate BPCR!

I bought both of these rifles new many years ago, when a 1874 was a 4 year wait, mostly because I could get them quickly and for a very good price. I would not trade either rifle for any other model out there. Well......, I might consider a trade if a Hepburn was offered, but maybe not.........

I had a 1875 in 22 for a good many years with the single set trigger.
It’s a decent little rifle, it seems to prefer RWS ammo. I sold the rifle in 2015 when I bought my Ballard. The young man that got my rifle, his mom bought it from me was the jr National champion with it in 2016.

I've had my eye on them for quite a few years hoping their unpopularity would allow me to find a reasonable one to rechamber.
Would be a perfect action for a light sporter in 40-50.SBN

with a little tweaking they can be a very elegant rifle

There was a man in New York that made these exactly like the originals - I don't know what they cost (but not cheap), but he passed a few years ago. I can't remember his name. He made 77's and other rifles from scratch as well. It would be great if Steve Earl would make them.

Based on work I've had done in the past, would guess the wood, checkering & engraving would run another $1500-2000. Add that to the base $1500, or so, and you are right up there with the average Shiloh. No free lunch.

Can you get there from a CSharps? I would think it would be all but impossible. I wish there were good diagrams of the real 75. Maybe there are somewhere.

Cosmetically you could come close. Wouldn't be as sharp of a grip though.

You can certainly dress them up, probably as much as you want and for as much money as you want to spend.
