About 10 -15 years ago, I had talked with my son in law about a long walk. Being a long haul trucker from Seattle to Alaska and points north, he agreed to cache MRE packs along the way fom Fairbanks north. He would get the GPS coordinates for me, and I had planned a summer time "walk" carrying only my bedroll, GPS and marlin 45-70. Never did work out though. May have been a good thing.

OH I know 'bout those skeeters...I worked on the north slope rigs my summer quarter of college in '67. We had presented a plan to put saddle tanks on the skeeters and fly the oil out.

There are millions of acres of national forest in Colorado, just west of the front range, from Lake George North. You could wander around in there for weeks and never be seen or see anyone. Take a 5 piece fly rod also, you could just about live on brook trout.

Scott:

You might take a hard look at the Beartooth Plateau SW of Red Lodge Montana. You sure wouldn't get bored looking at the scenery.

There is also plenty of country to wonder about in the Selway and Salmon River country in Idaho. Heap plenty. You could wonder all summer...

Lazer I was there last year for almost three weeks.
We went as far as 419 would take me and checked that area out very good.
Granite peek was a little tough, the 68 year old lungs are getting a little weak.
But your right it is a beautiful location.
Even a little farther west near Gardiner that sheep mountain is a nice place.
