Nice rifle Scott, good luck hunting with it. Let us know how she shoots.

That's cool and should make a great hunting rifle. I like the way the wood grain flows and the patch box is a nice touch too.

Looks good. I would not have thought of putting set triggers on a carbine.

I just love set triggers and this works out to be a pleasing arrangement.

Scott, why the patch box? Just good looks (a good enough reason for me), or do you have a plan for it?

How much space is in there anyway?

Nice rifle Scott.
You're going to love the .50/70.
Mine's a Lonestar Roller and it shoots outstanding.

I found it very easy to find a load that shoots well in the .50/70.

Swiss 1.5 FG and Goex Express both do very well for me.

Good Luck with it!

I like the looks of a patchbox, and there is not a lot of room in there. But we had a hunt last year where a buddy broke a firing pin. A spare pin and spring takes up almost no space and is awfully handy if you are in the middle of nowhere. Beats making a new one out of a nail! (Though that can be done also)

That's a good idea.
I have a patchbox on my Hartford 45/70. I never thought about that - putting a spare pin in there.

It's amazing how well they fit the parts on those guns. If you run your finger over the patchbox and wood, you can't even feel a ridge. They literally sink it perfectly flush with the wood.

And, it does look really nice on the guns. I just would'nt do it with anything other than plain wood because it would eat up a lot of nice figure on an extra fancy or presentation stock.

Very nice gun! I imagine it will get lots of use and scratches in your parts. By the way, what kind of critter you have it propped up against? It sure gotta a lot of legs. I'd like one of them on my office wall.

Scott, did you opt for the 22" or 24" barrel?
I wonder if Shilo could put a patch box on a already made rifle?

Scott,

Looks great! Let us know how she shoots. You're going to have to change your signature, it's not just you and Big Nose Kate anymore!

I have brass, I have powder, I have bullets cast. ARRG!

Scott, I know you haven't shot her yet but how does your military stock seem to line up for you? I've got that ordered on a Hartford. I'm staying with it since that's what they had but I'm just curious.

Seems to index fine when I throw it up to the shoulder. Not as comfortable as the stock on Kate, but Kate and I have been through a lot together.
