I like the looks of a patchbox, and there is not a lot of room in there. But we had a hunt last year where a buddy broke a firing pin. A spare pin and spring takes up almost no space and is awfully handy if you are in the middle of nowhere. Beats making a new one out of a nail! (Though that can be done also)
That's a good idea.
I have a patchbox on my Hartford 45/70. I never thought about that - putting a spare pin in there.
It's amazing how well they fit the parts on those guns. If you run your finger over the patchbox and wood, you can't even feel a ridge. They literally sink it perfectly flush with the wood.
And, it does look really nice on the guns. I just would'nt do it with anything other than plain wood because it would eat up a lot of nice figure on an extra fancy or presentation stock.
Very nice gun! I imagine it will get lots of use and scratches in your parts. By the way, what kind of critter you have it propped up against? It sure gotta a lot of legs. I'd like one of them on my office wall.
Looks great! Let us know how she shoots. You're going to have to change your signature, it's not just you and Big Nose Kate anymore!

Scott, I know you haven't shot her yet but how does your military stock seem to line up for you? I've got that ordered on a Hartford. I'm staying with it since that's what they had but I'm just curious.
