My plastic handled, stainless wonders would make a purist weep! They sure do the job though and don't rust or slip in your hand when bloodied up.
Hope I get to put mine to work next month on a moose and bear carcass. MD

Well I'm in the market for a custom hunting knife, don't have any as of now. I don't think anyone would like my gerber.

Here is my favorite damascus hunting knife made by Charlie Smith out of Oklahoma. He hand carved a buffalo on the top of the knife for me. He has alot of options if you would like to check out his website...

Mighty perrrrrty Flippin but I'd have that buffalo busted off there before I finished a hunting trip. Much to fine a piece of art work to destroy in hunting camp I'm thinking. MD

OK here you go. :D
Nothing fancy, but get the job done. The Scagel repro is the only one by a custom maker I have. Carbon steel except for the two Buck knives. The bowie is an old E.C. Solingen that I reprofiled and replaced the crappy alluminum hilt with a steel one. still have work to do on that one. But I'm no knifemaker. It would make a fine pigsticker though. When it comes time to dress out an animal I use the old standby Buck 110 with the S30V blade. And the Buck Kalinga is great for splitting the pelvis like a canopener. The other two sit in the safe.

You guys ever try any short drop points? The curved blades work quite well for skinning. MD

The little buffalo carving is pretty stout, Its connected at 5 points... all four legs, and about 1/4 inch at the chin of the buffalo. So its sturdy enough not to break off :D

Johnny B Good,
I like the Pumas as well, but you have to get the ones made from
no later than the late 1980's. Their quality has gone to s**t.
Probably why the older ones will set you back a lot more than the new ones.

You're right Kamotz, but then again, what hasn't deteriorated in quality since the old days, with the exception of certain Single Shot Black Powder Rifles of course  But what has really surprised me recently are the Spanish Knives with the Puma Stamp

Thats some nice knives. I was looking to have a couple made, something along the lines of a skinner and a big bowie. But then I think well for about 1500 more I can get another Shiloh.

Use a Shrade Old Timer bone handled folding knife with two blades. 250t. Use only one of the blades which has steel so hard you can't dull it. Never almost have to sharpen it. Opened up it is 9.5 inches.
