Good eats II

Post by Stephen Borud »

This is a picture of me and my 6 yr old son Kaleb, we have hunted together for 2 years, but this was the first time we harvested something together. I was proud of how well he did, considering it was 9 degree's this morning. We had a great time. Gun 45 2 4/10 (tight chamber) 536 gr swage paper patch bullet, 85 grains of 1F swiss, card,lube,card, 145 yard shot.

Good work Stephen! I was headed up from Colorado to hunt antelope this morning south of Casper but I-25 was closed and so was Hwy 287. I'll give it another go in the morning. I think it's very important to teach our children what we know about this. I used to take my boys too when they were young.

Thanks

Marathonman and Rdnck,

Marathonman I hope you get up here to hunt, it started snowing this evening again, it's light, and I don't think we will get to much, but look on the bright side, it's supposed to be up in the 40's and 50's by the middle of next week. Good luck on your hunt

Stephen;

Totally awesome, good for you. That's a nice buck and a well done photo composition too. I take it that's the same style bullet for the doe you got but what style and hardness is it ? Flat point, Creedmoor or other?
Your son will have good memories.

Pete it is the same bullet I shot the doe with a few weeks ago. It's a .440 swage bullet, a copy of the original UMC 500 grain hunting bullet that Orville gave me. I had Corbin make a die for it and I've had good luck with it. It's .440 o.d. patched with 9 lbs onion skin paper it's around .446.
I wasn't looking for a big buck, any would do, as long as my oldest boy got to be there to see it happen, now he know's where the jerky and sausage comes from. We had a good time.
