Hunting pics from last few seasons
2007 buck with 40 2 1/4, 380 gr ppb,
about 30 yards
2008 buck with my new 50 1 3/4 473 ppb
@162 yards
2008 last day buck in the Duck Mtns in Canada,
passed up a 160" or better the first day, shot a
trophy Jack Pine the second day trying to thread
the needle through the bush at a nice 5X5 the
second day and didn't see another deer till this
one, awsome time though. About 30 yards
with the 50, 473 ppb
2009 doe with the 50 ppb @ 80 yards.
Don't usually take pictures of the does
but had the boys with on this one.
Wouldn't trade that for the biggest buck in the world.
2009 buck 50, ppb @ about 8 yards in a sea of cattails
Teaching the boys how to skin a deer.
The wife about had a heart attack when
she came in the shop and saw boy #1 with
the knife but I got her calmed down enough
the take a picture.
And since this post is so picture heavy and
just for the heck of it here is a couple of us
during goose season. In the second goose pic
it looks like a nice day but the wind was blowing
about 50 mph and my brother and I put out only 12
shell decoys but had put
rocks on them to keep them from blowing away.
Birds didn't seem to mind.
What the heck, one more. The wifes 2009 buck. .243

40-70 thanks. I've got some niece's that I take out hunting along with their dads. Most days we picked more wild flowers and chased butterflys then hunted but all had a good time.
pete, I have a philosophy of if you can get closer, get closer. Sometimes it gets taken to extremes but that's what I like to do. I usually get four deer tags, gratis, archery and two doe, and try to keep the total combined range of the four deer at 100 yds or less. Tough to do in this open country. Actually have only done it once but it is a good goal.

Longcarbine
Your doing it the right way, the closer the better, not everyone can shoot accurately at long ranges and not everyone can get close to an animal, both are challenging, being from the Homeland, I know about open country and the conditions you are hunting in. Shooting paper patch bullets, good lord thats even better. Your sons look like there having the time of there lives, I brought my six year old out with me antelope hunting this last year and I never had so much fun, you can never start to early with the outdoor education. Good pictures, I really enjoyed them.

The wife and I have 3 sons, no daughters...never could throw one. Your young boys remind me of many, many hunts as a family. The boys are mostly older now and have discovered sports, girls and a bit of independence...go figure. They still hunt with dad but I miss the years when they were young and always in tow. Your pictures took me back...thank you.
