Great job and a great story!

What your boys learned is priceless!
I had gotten possession of a big "50" gun early in the fight, and was making considerable noise with it.

Thanks Mike I'm a firm believer in teaching my boys. Letting them experience what I enjoy so much. That's what real Dads do and that is what being a real man is all about.

Mike my load is a 473 grain PP bullet 9 lbs onion skin paper a 100 grains of 1F Goex express a .025 card 3/16 lube and another .025 card. I can say it's a flat shooting load. Oh and a pure lead bullet.

Thanks

Some day I would like to see a close up picture of this rifle.
From what I can see of it my coming .44-77 will look just like it I think.

Kurt

Kurt it's a Hartford with a 30" barrel. It has a 13 1/2" pull just like the original 44-77 Orville has. Semi fancy wood, crescent butt plate, pack hardening, polished blued barrel, fire blues screws. I built an early Hartford front sight with a bronze post I have said it before but that early front sight is my favorite. It's some what tarnished which makes it perfect for me.

I noticed your cresent butt plate and was wondering how you like it? I have always liked the looks of that style better then the shotgun style. I have a Ballard 40-90 with a cresent butt plate and it just kicks the snot out of me. I have learned how to hold it but boy if I am off just a hair on placement I feel it.

Dm I like it. I had this rifle built for hunting only. I have shot it prone off my hunting pack for practice and yes if you don't shoulder it correctly it will bite. But as long as you put it in your upper arm it's a pussy cat to shoot.

Well mine will be just about like with a 32 standard weight barrel single trigger with the Lawrence sight in the .44-77.

Ya Kurt my 44/77 that is on order has a standard weight barrel 30" long. Ought to be a real killer. I hope I can break it in a antelope next year.

I had the same results that Brent did with a flat nose paper patch bullet.

Well done all around Stephen. Sounds like you and your boys had real good experiences. That 50 is working real good for you although I'm sure you were wondering whether or not it would be big enough for antelope :)
