2 for 2

Post by Brent »

Took my second bird this morning with a little help.

This gobbler and I had a long conversation along with a second tom off to the south a ways. After a time, he decided to hustle on over and check me out, but along the way a pair of does took an interest in him. When he wanted to circle to my right and cut off the second gobbler, the smaller yearling got curious and started walking him down. She herded him right to me and I had to hold my shot for quite a while waiting for the tom to turn so I could get a clear shot w/o hitting the deer too.

He was a nice adult bird, but not particularly large. Perhaps he was worn down by the breeding season. His feathers were pretty beat up. He had good hooks though.

the .72-90-500 PPS proved more than adequate.

I don't think there is a harder picture to take than a dead turkey. Darn things don't photo anything like they look in life.
