well, you are on the right way.
i think that the majority of hunters are not able to hunt correct!
they have a great lack on shooting practice and beeing not able to stalk on Game.Exeption that proves the rule but this are a handfull of Hunters here.The most of them go for a highseat hunt well equipt with the actual technical gimics, a well filled bottle ,the high power Rifle with expensive optics in front and be waiting until a boar or a deer is comming accross that ways.Have you ever seen a typical german hunt ? .... :lol:
halla li.... the Deer is dead ......
i feel that there is nothing what i understand for a real traditional hunt
it´s more a Sniper Kill on less than 80 meteres

You're right Klaus. Too much of what's considered hunting now is just sniping. No skill used working the country or spotting and stalking......just sitting and shooting.

Thing is Pete is that we're faced with hardly any space to hunt in many areas east of the Mississippi and its getting that way in Oklahoma, Texas, etc. Too many people! Plus, at my age you're not going to see me hiking into the outback anymore much less toting anything out without the aid of a vehicle of sorts. :wink: I'm just happy to be somewhere on a stand and yep if a buck trots out at 300 yds and I have a good rest for my 25-06 well I'll snipe away!!!!! :D

Yellowhouse;
I understand what you're saying about available hunting space. I think human population is changing the whole hunting environment. I believe in the future it will resemble the European model where it will become very limited. Even around here desirable licenses that could be had with 0 to 1 preference point now take 3 or more, I'm glad I'm not just starting out although the current young people don't know any different.
As far as hunting techniques goes I don't have a problem with older or handicapped people who "snipe away" but to watch the TV shows and hear the eastern transplants around here they don't know how else to do things. These guys are able bodied but seem to have a real problem when they have to get off their ass and hunt. Oh well just a change in the times I guess....bait and blast.

I'm getting to be a old duff and I don't snipe hunt I learned at a very early age what snipe hunting is all about :D When we went out snipe hunting the older boys gave me a gunny sack and a whistle and a flash light, but I beat them back to the truck and they walked back to town :D :D

Serious I stalk and still hunt here where a yard light glows at every point on the compass in the early morning hours and I never felt I needed to sit up in a tree.
