My son Jacob and his jake

Post by John Bly » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:21 am

My son Jacob and his roomate came home from college for the weekend to hunt turkeys. I had scouted some and had no good information for him as to where to go. He has a favorite spot but the landowner said he had not seen much turkey sign or heard any gobblers. They went there anyway and got into a flock with mature gobblers, hens and jakes. The old boys would not come to call but this jake got curious and paid the price. He's 14 1/2 lbs with a 4" beard, about half of Rick's bird, but any spring turkey is a good one. The picture is in my back yard, not where he shot it.
