Buffalo 2012

Post by Bill Broam »

Good evening, this is a picture of a Bull I got Nov 23. 2012. 2 yrs old on the Shoshone bannock Reservation by Pocatello idaho.
I used My Shiloh 45/70 with 70 grains of 2 F Goex, starline brass, Magnum primer and cast 525 grain bullet with home made lube.

My first shot was about 150 yards and I hit him about 1/2 inch above the heart and broke the leg, chased him about a mile before it was finished.
A friend of mine also got a nice 2 year old bull on the same trip. We had been talking about this for about 10 years before we got to go. It was alot of fun and pretty reasonable.I will be going back again in about 2 years. That is why i am having the 50/90 built. That and a canadian Moose. Bill

Very nice - I've done it once my self and am itching for another trip.
Next one will be strictly a meat hunt - that's good eats!

Looks like some excellent eating. How much freezer space does a 2 1/2 year ols bull take up? I'm hoping to take one this November with my .45 2 7/8".

About 19 to 21 cubic feet will put you in the ballpark. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Nice work Bill! Congratulations.

My buddie and I got ours about a week earlier in Montana. Meat bulls of course.

Delicious!

Klaus, no I broke his shoulder with the first shot and the bullet stopped nder the off side.I was surprised I figured the 500 grainer would go clear through. At least with what i had read. But I guess each animal is different and react differently. Have hunted for 40 years and these animals are the toughest so far.

Elk are tough but not like these critters. have a good day. Bill

Bill, the 50-90 kills moose with aplomb! I've never seen one drop as fast as the 50 2 1/2 puts them down. Enjoy your hunt and I hope you are as successful as your bison hunt. Jim
