I really like that front sight Stephen!
I had gotten possession of a big "50" gun early in the fight, and was making considerable noise with it.

Pete the sight would work fine on a gun that fired greasers.....it would take away from the sight though!!!

 Good one Stephen. I'm looking forward to your reports from the hunting field this fall. It'll be interesting to hear how the little round does. I have an original sample and it is a neat looking cartridge.

I will let you know how she works. I'm thinking it will kill efficiently.

First casualty of the day! 45 SAA = dead prairie dog. My Estonian pard thought this was totally awesome.

One of Orville's shooting ranges.

The 40/50 proved to a great shooter. We were shooting off the deck at the infamous 20 # propane bottle at 681 yards, hand rale rest, barrel sights, shooting dirty = accuracy. We shot off hand at a rock a little bigger then a football, 531 yards, ding, the dirty dog keeps a shooting. My Estonian friend picked the rifle up this morning, he has never shot a Sharps Rifle or anything like it. The sixth shot he whacked the 20# propane bottle, then proceeded to lead slap everything in between. Of course we also had two Big 50s, a 14# 44/77 and a 76 Win 45-75. All shot dirty with ease.

The guns just shoot.

Stephen, don't you just love long range shooting! It is surprising just how good you can get at it. A buddy of mine and I used to do that with hand guns too. That was way back in the mid 1970's shooting .357 magnums out to several hundred yards. We just picked something further out to sight on and lobbed them in. Give that Colt SAA a dance sometime! :D
