I guess if I felt that I needed a modern scope on a Shiloh I'd have a smith/machinist build me a picatinny rail that had a dovetail on the bottom for the rear barrel sight dovetail and extended eye relief pistol scope for it. No extra drill and tap holes then. bobw

if scopes had evolved to today's level, but rifles and powder were the same as in the 1800s, what would all the guys be using?
good to see a guy getting out and doing it, playing the cards he has been dealt.

Rifle is sure pretty even with the modern scope.... Does distract the eye a tad tho... Did I mention how pretty that rifle is.. ??

At least you didn't have to wipe the milk from his lips before you took the photograph.

Don't think I have ever seen a branch like the 5th tine on the right antler before on a South Texas white tail.

Uvalde County ? Maybe Dimmitt or Zavala?

Took another look at that photograph......lighter color, suggests south and east toward Rio Grande Valley but that is antler growth unusual for that area.

Hey Guys,
Got him on the Junco Ranch in Webb county. We have a lot of deer with some sort of short "kickers" off the main beams, but this was one of the longest and heaviest.

Here's a better pic of the "kicker".

Not quite indicative of mule deer influence but have not seen one like that before. Would at least mount the horns.

Hi Jack, I hadn't noticed the "kicker", they certainly cause you to double take when one steps out

My grandson Caleb shot a pretty drop tine last year at a friends near Goliad

Have a great Holiday Season
