Around here, we call that a "truck gun".
I don't always shoot well, but when I do there isn't any reason.

I prefer a rawhide wrap to hold that forend on, but what y' got there seems to work too. J' hit that buck with the barrel or the butt?

That wrap is just to cover the bailing wire. I hated getting rust stains on my hands. Took one quick wack with the barrel to stun him and several butt strokes to put him down.

Gussy,

I took this Muley back in 2007 with my Browning B78 in 6MM-Remington in it's original form. I had to pull the trigger for this one.

Hey OLR I only see blood from his mouth so I think he gave that young one a horizontal buttstroke :D
Good eating on that one Gussy. Throw a little apple wood in the smoker for about 12 hrs at low heat and a big chunk from the hind quarter and let it rest wrapped up in a couple towels in your beer cooler and have at it.
Save the back straps for the grill. Hmmmmgood.

Not too many like that here anymore either Gussy. That one was enough to win the district Wildlife Association award that year.

That B78 wasn't purchased to be like that either. I bought it and later found out it had a wide spot inside the barrel at about 16 inches. I was about to have it rebarreled and a smith talked me into trying this first. It shoots around 1 inch groups. I'm still looking for another 6mm single shot with a regular barrel!?😂

This one has the octagon hunter weight barrel and it took some doing to find a load that grouped because of that whippy barrel I think. I bought it used and I don't think it had ever been cleaned since new. It took a long time to get the copper out. I wound up with the 95 grain Nosler ballistic tip which is what I took that big boy with. I do all my hunting with single shots and I have a Browning 1885 Hi-wall in 30-06 for the long range stuff and a 22-250 for the 'yotes and the like. Works for me. Longest shot with the 'o6 on another Muley was 426 yards (range finder) and 550 yards on a Speedy Goat. It likes a 180 grain Sierra Match King and 55 grains of 4350. That produced this 600 yard group. The shot at 4 o'clock was the first one and you can see how the spotter walked me into the group at center. Excuse the shit-faced grin but I was quite pleased. Paul

What is the velocity on the 95 grainer in that short barrel?
