This was a very good rifle match for several reasons.
It was held in Raton New Mexico. Our favorite place to shoot.
Financially, this match was about half the cost to shoot compared to lever action.
Two days of shooting was perfect for us.
This was a safe match. I didn't see not one rifle sweeping folks with the muzzle...not one.
We didn't hear any loud, bad language and there was no drinking that we observed while rifles were still out.
The pace of the match was perfect.
The "tower' commands were just about the best I have ever heard. Let me qualify that compliment. I have taken commands from a range tower/range
Officer for 44 years at work and for 36 years as a competitor with firearms. I have spent countless hours qualifying people from many law enforcement
agencies and have been a match director and range officer putting on contests for civilians. I consider myself pretty darn good running a relay, but I
must admit one of the tower guys was better than me...they were all Superior, but one was PERFECT in tone , clarity in commands, and rhythm.
Jeanne and I were just about to shoot Rams when I looked up to her and confessed, " Damn, I think he's better than me." and She agreed.

This was the PERFECT match to show my 13 year old Grand Son how a match should be ran. All three of us hope to be back if the match is held again
Next year.
Thank You all for all the hard work. We know what it's like doing these things, and everyone working this match made it look easy.

I concours with Glen Ring. I’ve attended hundreds of BPCR silhouette events and this one was as good as it gets. I thank everyone who organized, planned, and conducted last week’s match.

Great praise from MLV, he is the only shooter to have attended all the nationals at raton! i think that qualifies him as an expert.

You guys are making me blush! Thank you for the very kind comments! I hope everyone knows that David, Kenny, and myself and Coralee tried very hard to put on a good match for everyone. We also had lots of help from some super sponsors and various folks that helped in all kinds of ways, and most importantly we had 71 fantastic shooters that really made the match great. Thank you to everyone that shot the match and supported it. I had a really good time. Hopefully we can pull it off again next year.
Thank you!
Cody

Please thank whoever donated the reloading books by Paul Mathews and Robert Ballowe. They were a VERY welcome door prize.

I have reloaded for rifle and pistol since 1978, but these two little books have showed me things I have been neglecting in Black Powder cartridge.

I advise any potential new Black Powder rifle shooter to read these books prior to reloading or even purchasing a rifle and components. I wish I had.

Any new ( to black powder cartridge ) shooter who would like to read these books , send me a message and I'll mail the books to you Free of cost.

We were getting requests from folks that will not use facebook for access to the pictures. We tried dropbox, so see if that works.

TNX. Cody.
Great pictures and it looks like I have to get my act together and make it to one.
I been putting it off because of some reviews after the matches in the past.

Most of the books were donated by Wolfe Publishing, who is the parent company of The Black Powder Cartridge Rifle News that is edited by Steve Garbe. We were so blessed to have a number of very generous sponsors this year! Please remember them as you go through the year.

Robert Ballowe's books were purchased for the match but he gave us a very generous discount since they were prizes. Excellent books with a ton of helpful info. The Showdown was a fun match and it was a pleasure to host it with Cody, Coralee and David.

As a side note, if folks are curious how their entry fees are spent...the cost for using the range and paying for target setters for those two days of the Showdown set us back $4,157. That doesn't include paint expense, supplies, purchased prizes, etc. All this is taken into consideration when establishing entry fees. Just FYI.

We have had our fair share of putting on matches and know the costs ( and headaches sometimes) of doing so. We REALLY enjoyed your match and wonder how you folks did so well on that budget.

In the past Jeanne and I have certainly "donated" our own funds and lost thousands of dollars in income just so we ( mostly Jeanne ) could put on a good match.

We suspect that also happened here with some of you. We match directors notice the small things and are constantly calculating costs...and we GREATLY appreciate all of your time and money invested for shooters.
