RBGC SE Regional

This is where you can place your scores from the matches. It uses an excel spread sheet! If you send me your sheet of scores I can put it on the forum and provide a link where everyone can view it.

RBGC SE Regional

Post by SSShooter » Tue Oct 26, 2021 12:40 pm

28 competitors showed up for the RBGC SE Regional. Numbers down this year due to a conflicting match elsewhere.
Occasional rain delays during the 22RF 200yd target match. In an attempt to avoid the rain we shot 2x15-shots on the 200yd & reduced 600yd targets. Gerald Parks was the class of the scope shooters with a fine 298-11X and Tom Klinger was king of the irons shooters with a 291-11X. 3rd HOA was Melanie Klone, who also the high junior shooter.
Days 2, 3 & 4 had excellent weather with a cool start and highs in the low-to-mid 70s. Moderate, but tricky breeze from time-to-time. Plenty of sun.
Day-2 was a 2x10-shots 600yd BPTR match. Don't have a pic of the score sheet, but Clarence Dykstra's 181 stood proud.
After the smoke cleared from the 2-day BPCR match Charlie Butler was tops in Scope and Steve Hubbard was tops in Scope and HOA.
We had a great banquet Saturday evening with some truly excellent brisket with all the trimmings. After the food was served there was a very generous socialist prize drawing where everyone went home a winter. A big "Thank You" to all the donors.
And, our thanks to Charlie, Doug, Steve and everyone else who helped putting on one of the better matches of the season. All ready looking forward to the fall of 2022.

To late to edit, but Mr. Hubbard was tops in irons (not scope) and also shot the high-score for the BPCR match.
Neglected to mention that Vince D'Alessandro was the top chicken shooter with 9. He would have had 10 and a 5-pin but one of his chickens decided to do a pirouette and stay on the rail turned 90 degrees rather than fall down. They are so pesky. Vince also moved up into the quagmire of AAA scope for next season.
Again, congrats to all the winners.

Glenn he look like a good prospect for the grand slam making contact with 10 chickens in the AA class and moving up. :D

Yes, but that was over a 2-day match. Vince is definitely a good off-hand shooter and getting better.

Somebody needs to advise Vince that turning a chicken around on the stand is a whole lot more difficult than knocking the chicken off the stand. AND, those are his targets, he paid for them and he can shoot or not shoot them any way that pleases him.

Great match as always. It is on my must do list every year. It was challenging just getting there. Beautiful weather, mornings in the low 40's, daytime highs mid 70's. Bright sunny days are not the best for shooting. We got started late each morning because of shadows on the targets. Fantastic food on Sat eve with many prizes for everyone. I think everyone got at least 2 hats. Charlie did a good job as head honcho and Doug Gazaway did the line calling and kept us on time. Jim Kidwell came to visit for a while on Sunday. He had been hospitalized for pneumonia until Friday. I'll be back next year.

Here is the "official" match report from the match director, Charlie Butler, who did a great job.

I hope all of you made it home safely after the match was over Sunday evening. We started off with questionable weather on Thursday for the .22 match. It started raining before we could even begin… so, we changed the 3 relays to 2 X 15 rds each and still had 4 rain delays but got them in. Friday, we could only get in 2 relays of 10 rds ea on the 600 yd black powder because we would have had problems with the shadows later in the afternoon. Next year, we will do 2 X 15 rds on the 22 and 600.
The weather was perfect for the 600 yd match and for the 2 day Silhouette. The BBQ banquet Saturday night was catered again by Danny Cruikshank where he had plenty for everyone. Awards were handed out for the 22 and 600 yd matches after dinner…Scoresheets are attached at the bottom.
22 Match: MW - scope was Gerald Parks - 298 / 11x’s. 2nd - scope was Mark Harrison - 295 / 12x’s. 3rd - scope was Melanie Krone (Junior) - 295 / 8x’s plus Hi Junior award.
Iron’s: MW -Tom Klinger - 291 / 11x’s. 2nd Iron - Charlie Schroeder - 281 / 11x’s. 3rd - Iron - Ken Wienken - 280 / 10x’s.
600 Yd Match Winners: MW - Clarence Dykstra - 181/ 0x’s. 2nd Open- Charlie Schroeder -180 /5x’s. 3rd Open - Steve Hubbard - 178 / 3x's
We had a lot of great prizes to give out from great Sponsors like Richard Wood, Shiloh Rifles, MVA, Schuetzen Powder, Mark Waage melting pot, Vortex Optics, Hodgen Goex Powder, RCBS, and Black Rifle Coffee Co ( Everyone got a lb of Black Rifle Coffee!) and many others. The truly ’Special’ prizes came from our own - Charles Outler… with his gifts of a Powder Horn with “2021 SE REGIONAL BCPR” and a buffalo done in scrimshaw and 2 hands made knives. Beautiful work!
The 2 day aggregate Silhouette Match came down to the wire with a shoot off for the top 3 spots for Scopes and scores of 58: Charlie Butler won the Match Winner Award of a beautiful hand blown rifle - one for Scope and one for Irons. Gerald Parks won 2nd Open - Scope, and Dave Zizzo won 3rd Open - Scope as a result of the shoot off’s.
Steve Hubbard won the other hand blown rifle award for Match Winner - Irons with the high score of 61! Tom Klinger won 2nd Open - Irons with a 57, and Tony Walker won 3rd Open - Irons with a 54.
Helen Mills came over from Athens to present the “Milton Mills Memorial - Champion Spotter” awards again this year to the two top spotters for the Match Winners - Gerald Parks for the Scope winner and Doug Gazaway for the Iron winner. Milton Mills was my partner and spotter for several years until he died last June.
As I have said many times this past week, I really do appreciate the great help in organizing this Regional Match from folks like Doug Gazaway, Kevin Hurst, Alan Rauber, Steve Hubbard and the wonderful help from the ladies that did the score keeping - Connie Schroeder, Rose Wienken, and Dave Zizzo’s wife and daughter! Thank you!
I thank all of you who were here for making the SE Regional a great success again! Many of you traveled a long way and it was appreciated. I hope everyone had a great time. Feel free to pass these scores on to other forums.
Regards
Charlie Butler

Really missed being there. Schedules will work out better next year. I will be sure to call Charlie next time someone asks if there is any big matches in the month of October. Good shooting to Steve and Charlie.

Hey Ian, how about giving us a run down on the match at Oak Ridge.
