There were 4 National Record set, one at 300 by Jack Odor with a 100-7X and the other three were all shot by Jimbo Terry establishing 15 shot records at 800, 900, and 1000 yards in the Tollifson class. The 147-7X that Jimbo shot at 800 is actually one point above the current Open record.

If possible could you tell about conditions or any weather challenges during the match?

Saturday was fairly mild for the mid range. Temps ranged from the 60's to the low 80's during the match. Winds were mild enough that the sun made for a warm firing line. Sunday started out breezy and hit downright windy by the time we got to 1000 yards. The morning winds were in the 3-5 range and by the end of the day we had gusts well into the 20's. Temps got up to the low 90's before we finished. There were some terrible tough relays so everyone got a taste or two during Sunday.

Saturday wasn't too rough other that the firing line got a little warm under the bright sun and slight breeze. Wind calls were minimal but you did have to watch for reversals. Fouling was well managed by 2-3 damp patches. The mid range match was shot with 10 shot strings so we finished by 3:30 or so.

Sunday was a lot tougher with the hot dry wind and bright sunshine beating down on the firing line. I'm sure ground temps were well above 100. The long range match was shot in 15 shot strings with unlimited sighters so it was common for folks to shoot 19-22 shots per distance in the 35 minute time limit. This made for very hot barrels that required 3-4 damp patches to knock down the fouling. We didn't finish shooting until around 5:30 so we got all of the hot part of the day. Wind calls were brutal as the day played out. The prevailing condition was a switching strong tail wind. Some of the calls went from 12 right to 4 left and back again at 1000 yards.

I don't believe any of the competitors tried to blow tube in either the mid range or long range matches. I don't believe it would have worked for long range and only maybe for mid range. Wiping was done either with a brush or a jag on the rod with water based solutions. I know many of us used water with water soluble oil in varying formulas.

Don, we had 12 shooters for the inaugural event. I don't know when next year's match will be but we talked about August as a possibility just to be a good warm up for September in Raton. Maybe the later part of August depending on the existing scheduled events.

Looking forward to shooting that match next year.

It was a very good time and a challenging match.
Bryan Youngberg was really there. I wasn't sure if people could see him standing behind me.

Somebody thought we needed to stand staring into the sun. I was looking for shade.

Michael,

Don't make them too big. We might be able to see what some of these characters really look like and that could scare some new recruits away.
