June is the 60-shot 'super-shoot' match. 42 shooters. Couple of hours of rain of various intensity during the few 2-3 hours (from very light to a good down-pour) to make things interesting. Light winds, but the overcast & moisture made reading conditions/mirage pretty tricky on the long-range animals.

Chilly (48F), clear & calm to start the day. Once the sun started hitting us it warmed up nicely with a 4-8mph breeze until the last animal when it picked up to 8-10mph with occasional gusts to 15mpg, which were easy enough to wait out.

Brian does shoot a .45-90 in a high wall from that 'other' Big Timber maker. But the last time I spoke with him he was not using a heavy charge -- 73 grains of 2 or 3F, as I recall, with little or no compression.

Yep........... 18/20 with that "light load" (54gr is a light load for me. My "heavy load" is still 9gr less then Brian's chicken load).
Brian followed that with a 15/20 with iron sights and 16/20 with scope at the Ridgway Eastern Regional the following Sat/Sun, where he also won the match.

His 68/80, 67/80 & 71/80 in the last three matches after Raton aren't too shabby. Something to aspire to.

First match of the 2015 season was "interesting". Friday consisted of 5" of wet snow and fog with mid-30s temp, so little to no practice. We did get the targets set, but was a muddy mess. Saturday started with temps at 33F, so no melting overnight, overcast & fog. However, 13 stalwart souls would not be denied, nor would the 4 young target setters (guess they needed to fund the BMW they showed up in). The fog gave an advantage to the scope shooters at the beginning, which continued as the misses kicked up large patches of mud amongst the white snow, making the animals appear larger and lopsided and tough to center. Conditions remained about the same until the 3rd relay of the 3rd animal when the sun starting breaking through and the melting started. Was a good thing, as the first two banks of chickens were near impossible to see. Congratulations to JohnW, the MW, and BrianC, scope, for their fine shooting in such conditions. And our thanks to BillD (& friends) for taking over as match director this year. Bodes well for a great season.
