Re: ARIZONA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

The 2014 Arizona State BPCR Silhouette Championships are in the books and boy what a ride!
Everyone got to experience a full range of Arizona weather starting out on Friday with clear skies, warm temperatures and mild breezes following with Saturday’s cloudy skies, cooler temps and some tricky winds in the afternoon.
Friday’s Iron sight match was won by Chip Mate with a 31X40 and the Scope Match winner was Snake Hips Tompkins with another 31X40.
Craig Buchanan lead the Vintage Snipers with a nice 34X40 shooting all the laydown targets and 4 chickens.
Saturday was a little trickier but the shooters were starting to catch on to the Ben Avery conditions with Bryan Rosenbaum, David Burger and Butch Ulsher recording 31X40s for the Iron Sight shooters and Klaus Schattleitner and Nick Resetz recording the same for the Scope shooters.
Craig Buchanan again led the Vintage Snipers with a 32X40.
Sunday was another story. We had cold winds blowing from the north which usually diminishes as the day warms up so we delayed the start of the match for an hour hoping the wind would subside.
When I say the wind was blowing I’m talking 25-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph!
At 10:00 it began to settle down and we could keep some of the targets on the rail so the majority of the shooters decided to give it a go.
I’ve been shooting at Ben Avery for a long time and usually the wind will eventually die down after the day warms up but not this time!
This was the first State Championship where the match winning scores for both the Iron Sight and Scope shooters on Sunday were 23X40s! Larry Wilkes was the top Iron Sight shooter and Jay Butts was the top dog for the Scope shooters. The Vintage Sniper guys faired a little better with Lee Bumbalow, Tim Finley and Craig Buchanan all shooting 26X40s.
When it was all said and done a AAA shooter from Texas, Bryan Rosenbaum, was the 2014 Arizona Iron Sight Champion with an aggregate score of 81X120 followed by Mr. Personality Butch Ulsher from Montana with a 80X120 for 2nd overall and Arizona’s Chip Mate, after winning the shoot-off, in 3rd Place with a 78X120.
For the Scope shooters it was all Klaus Schattleitner with a 77X120 win over Texan Bob Garibay and after a shoot-off another Texan, Jay Butts, was 3rd Overall.
I have never been so glad that a match was over and you guessed it, when it was time to hand out the awards the wind had died; it never fails!
All in all it was a great match with some outstanding shooting from some of the best BPCR shooters in the country and I commend them for the job they did in the conditions.
None of it would have been possible without the effort from Carolyn and her daughters Steph and Whit. They took care of the BBQ on Saturday and the score keeping for whole weekend.
Also I want to thank Jeanie Hershey, Don Petersen, Rob Johnson and Roland Wong for doing their part to help run the match.
The real stars of the show were again the Wickenburg High School Rifle Team led by Rex Powers who did another outstanding job setting the targets for us.
This may not have been the most comfortable match ever attended but its one that no one will forget!
Thank you all for coming to Arizona and I hope to see you back next year.

Sounds like a bunch of fun, wish I could have been there. Maybe next year....

It is pretty crazy to see the AAA guys as overall winners of these matches. Both the scope and iron sight overall champion for the Colorado state match were AAA class and now the Arizona Iron sight went to a AAA shooter. What's going on here? Are the master class guys slipping, or do we have a bunch of sand baggers in AAA!??
