Day-1. Beautiful day. Cool (55F) early with some sunshine. By the time the match got rolling it was cloudy, which gave way to nice sun with some clouds moving by and 80F by noon. Never terribly windy, but Raton has its way of working magic on all banks. When & where you shot each bank meant you could experience completely different conditions than the previous shooter in your group. Shooter on relay 1 might have a 13 and relay two a 7. The bank was also important. Bank 2, 3 & 4 might have consistent conditions and banks 6, 7 & 8 might be almost unreadable. A most difficult day for the spotters, which the scores reflected. Jerry Van Wey on top with a 49, followed by Brian Chilson (10 chickens), Dave Gullo and Brian Youngberg, all with 48s (may have been a 4th 48 - if so, my apologies as I don't recall who). Great fun and very challenging. Forecast is for more of the same on day-2.

Only shot a 35 today, but had a great time visiting with my once-a-year friends. Missing you Ted. Mike looks a little lost without you despite Dell's best efforts.

Experimental ammo is not recommended for a match, but desperation is what it is. I couldn't even earn a 5 pig fan yesterday.

Well now Brent you have to remember pigs are hard to kill. You can shoot them in the forehead and they will just shake their head and put their snout back down on the ground and keep rooting if they don't start chasing you
For some reason I will lay down more turkeys then pigs.

Day-2 had as many 'ups & downs' and 'side-to-sides' as day one. Spotters got a real workout with conditions from mild to just short of wild (gusty conditions). Overcast start with quite calm conditions, which changed to partly cloudy until the last hour, plus. Storms moving around us brought clouds and gusty winds. Brian Chilson was first in a shoot-off for the day's winner over Rick Moritz. Believe Jerry Van Wey was third, beating Brad Rice in a shoot-off. Brian is the 2018 scope National Champion with a 96 total. Congratulations!!

Day-1 of iron sights tomorrow. Pretty much the same weather forecast except quite a bit warmer in the high-80s.
