We can try this again if anyone is interested. I will post a set of targets tonight that I shot on Sunday. I hope many of you will join in.

1. unlimited sighters, then 10 shots for score. ( no converted shots)
2. Any BP cartridge, any powder (cast bullets only)
3. Enter as many times as you want
4. Provide your own target. (anything of appropriate size will work)
5. sitting or prone cross sticks ( Benchrest if you absolutely can't shoot any other way.)
6. iron or scope sights
7. Scoring:
a. Measure each shot in inches from target center
b. add 10 shots to get total score
c. On 800 yd target, anything over 24" from center (including misses) count as 25
Final score
For 800 yards multiply total inches by 1 to get final score
For 400 yards multiply total inches by 2.25 to get final score
For 200 yards multiply total inches by 5 to get total score
(this is just an experimental match don't dwell on it)

8. provide picture of target and rifle to enter. (and loading data as pertinent)
9. this one ends 30 April 2019.
10. Lowest score wins

there will be a drawing from all the participants for a treasure from my basement. This month, the drawing winner will get firearm/hunting related book. Who knows what it will be. Perhaps "The Year of the Lion" by Gerald Hanley or something like that. I'll look for a rifle book first.

Now go shoot :?

Okay, I shot these three targets. I only bothered scoring two of them. Shooting prone it as very difficult to see the bullet holes, even with a 27X Kowa Spotter. The target is badly backlit in the morning and I was shooting almost directly into the sun. By the third target I quit trying to see the holes at all and just fired 10 for record watching the mirage but not knowing if I was centered. I wasn't. Also, an 11th bullet hole mysteriously appeared in that target when I thought I only had 10 cartridges left to shoot.

Anyway, there they are:
Target #1 using some old chicken bullet loads that I know are not that accurate. 21.529" prorated to 107.645" at 800 yds.
Image

Target #2 using my silhouette loads, old and suspect powder that needs to be shot down. Note Shot #1 just barely touched the paper. Quite a difference in site settings - about 4.5 points. 24.024" prorated to 120.12" at 800 yds
Image

And Target #3, not even worth scoring, same load as #2 above
Image

I used my old highwall .45-70 with MVA B5 scope.

Okay, someone, anyone, beat that!

I hope to get a test in the AM with the re-barreled High Wall. We will see.

Here is a 200 yard target I shot while doing some load development a few days ago.
It was 200 yards, shooting my Shiloh 45-70 with a DZ arms scope.
This was shooting off of bench sticks, as lying in the mud wasn't appealing....

7/16 + 5/8 + 1-3/16 + 15/16 + 7/16 + 7/8 + 15/16 + 1-3/16 + 1-3/16 + 1-5/8 = 10-1/16
X 5 = 50.31

Nice looking group. You coming to Friendship for the Regional next month.

If the weather co-ops, I hope to test seven loads in two different rifles tomorrow. I also have to shoot my annual qualification for my HR218 permit tomorrow.

Thanks! I'll see tomorrow if it will repeat...

Yes, I'll be at the Friendship regional! Looking forward to it.
And I'm going to Lodi long range match the week before. Need to get some casting done...

Aviator,
Looks like you are the hands down winner! Congratulations. You can either shoot me an address and I'll put a book in the mail to you or I can bring it to Lodi. Whichever you like. Nice job!

Should we do this again for the month of May or is everyone busy shooting matches and planting gardens, etc? Seems like we need more than two contestants.

Woody, did your highwall hold the berm?

Brent,

Yes it did. I only had time for four groups before the conditions worsened and the Sheriff's Department arrived to shoot me. (Qualification that is.)

Two groups show promise. I need to see if it will repeat. I only fired seven rounds in each group so I didn't record the string measure etc. The last group was just over a MOA with the first six under and the seventh opening it up. My impression was I broke it slightly right. Plan on heading to the range this afternoon for some more testing before tonight's pistol matches.

How is your progress in solving your accuracy issues?

No sign of progress yet. Last weekend I shot some friends rifle with my ammo and the group at 2:00 yd was over 2'. This weekend I will try some friends bullets in my gun. I don't have much hope. Still, I'm going to Lodi to put lead in the air. Where it falls is another matter.

Well, I certainly don't expect anything, as I'm just doing it for entertainment. I do like books, though.

I will be at Lodi, and am looking forward to meeting people. I doubt if I will know anyone there.
