APGoodrich Great Lakes BPCR Regional

Post by SSShooter »

Started with .22BPCR yesterday. After a rain interruption (shades of the KY Regional) Brad Ryan out-shot the competition with a nice 32.
In the first of 3-days of BPCR competition, Jim Deitlein, just like in KY, won irons with a 31 and John Bly won scope with a 29.
Congrats and good luck to all on day-2.

Just asking...……...was this match listed here on the forum under another name, if not was it listed here at all?

Greg Vest is today's irons winner and Mark O'Malley won scope. There is no 2-day agg as everyone heads to the match dinner. Everyone will make it up on chickens on day-3.

This is one of my favorite Regional matches that I've ever attended around the country. I like the 3 day 40 shot format. Sometimes it takes 3 days for the cream to rise to the top. That is what happened in this match. Mark O'Malley and I slugged it out for 3 days. We tied on the 1st day and I had the tiebreaker. He beat me by 1 point on the 2nd day. We tied again on the 3rd day and he had the tie breaker but Kenny White came from behind and shot a 32 on the 3rd day to beat us both and win the 3 day agg. That's why he's in Master class and O'Malley and I are still in AAA in scope. I shot right next to Kenny all weekend so we had the same conditions. Sunday's conditions were kicking most of our butts but Kenny shot his best. He even shot one of my pigs and could not count it or his score would have been 33.

Steve and Jodi Decker run a good match and the competition was fierce all weekend. Those Michigan folks are tough to beat anywhere but we did our part and all 3 winners in scope were not MI natives. Jim Ratcliffe from Ohio won the 3 day Iron sight. Greg Vest was 2nd. He is from MI and was the only Michigander to place in the 3 day. Jim Deitlin, a tough MI shooter could not shoot on Sat so he didn't figure in the 3 day. Had he been there it may have been different.

If you like tough competition, a well run match, good food and great comaradarie put this on your schedule for next year. It is always the weekend after the 4th of July.

We finally had our 1st match of the season. Our Great Lakes Regional was a good way to start. We had 29 competitors show up for Thursday's BPCR .22 match. It was a hot, humid day with a rain delay but in the end Marshall Chase came out on top in Iron and Brad Ryan won the scope division. Friday brought more humidity with rain in the morning and practically no breeze leaving shooters to struggle seeing targets with all the smoke hanging. Despite dire weather predictions, the weather cleared up allowing for conditions to get better as the day went on. The weather was quite pleasant the rest of the weekend. Our annual dinner went on as planned Saturday even after a threat of no pulled pork because of a fire at the meat market. Thank you Debbie Primeau for all the effort to make sure you got and delivered the meat promptly, as well as your homemade potato salad! Thanks to Karen Chase and Jodi Decker also for the yummy deserts. With 41 competitors for the weekend, half of them were from out of state. Thank you to all who traveled whatever distance to shoot with us! Congratulations to the aggregate winners as well as the daily winners. Also Thank you to those that donated items to the prize table: Swiss Powder, C. J.'s Hunting Shack, Brad Ryan, Greg Vest, Fred Johnson, Steve & Jodi Decker and AP Goodrich. Lastly we need to recognize some donations from our members. Gary Freier, as always, did a great job on his wooden cut outs for the 20 & 30 pig awards that were awarded to those that accomplished that feat for the weekend. This year Jim Dietlein made and donated awesome unique ram shaped wooden Trophies to the high aggregate Iron, Scope and Woman shooter. They were won by Jim Radcliffe, Kenny White and Jodi Decker respectively. Thank you Gary and Jim! Thanks to all who helped before, during and after the match. Our next match is
August 8-9.

High Aggregate Winners IRON-Jim Dietlein 55/80 SCOPE-Steve Decker 55/80

Thank you to everyone who came out to our August match. Only one lone shooter came from out of state. That being Glenn Fewless and it was a pleasure to see him there. Several regulars were unable to make it for various reasons. The weather was pleasant but it did get a little
steamy on Sunday as the temp crept up to 89.
Congrats to the aggregate winners and the daily winners as well. One note of success, Steve Durren managed to shoot himself into AAA class on Saturday scoring a 29, his personal best. Nice shooting Steve!
Thank you to all who pitched in to help. We had 2 girl setters who did an awesome job but needed a hand at the end of the match placing the animals on the truck. Several competitors headed down range to help, especially with the extra heavy swingers we have. Thanks guys!
Our next match is the Fall Regional on September 12-13, see you there!

The last match of the crazy covid year is in the books at Alma. We had 22 shooters
competing in our Fall Regional. On Friday the weather was very nice for the .22 match which
ended up with Mark Chronister taking the honors as Match Winner. We were prepared for
a rainy Saturday match but after an early shower before the match, the rest of the day only
occasionally displayed threatening skies with very little rain falling. Sunday brought cooler
temperatures and winds gusting up to 25mph. Congratulaions to the daily winners and the
Aggregate Winners listed above.
Thank you to all who helped before, during, and after the match. Hopefully next year will
be back to normal and competitors will have the freedom and assurance that all can shoot
without fear of contracting a disease or unwittingly transferring one. Take care this winter
and we hope to see everyone in Spring.
Steve & Jodi
