Cumberland Riflemen BPTR Mid-range

This is where you can place your scores from the matches. It uses an excel spread sheet! If you send me your sheet of scores I can put it on the forum and provide a link where everyone can view it.

Cumberland Riflemen BPTR Mid-range

Post by SSShooter » Wed Sep 16, 2020 5:16 pm

We were blessed with near perfect weather to hold our September 12th, 2020 BPTR match at Cumberland Riflemen. The temperature was perfect and the wind was sporty enough to clear the line of smoke and wreck havoc at 600 yards. Turnout was great and was highlighted by one new competitor and several experienced shooters who were able to come out and enjoy the day. We even had some folks return to the line after many years away, and some competitors from other disciplines too! The scores (see attached) were consistent with a typical BPTR match, we had several displays of greatness, several shooters cursing the 600 yard line, and maybe one or two shooters scratching their heads.
All in all, it was a great match held at a top notch range and facility.
Thank you to all who participated and to those who were not able to join us, thank you for your support.
See you all in 2021.
Vince and Michele DAlessandro

First, everyone's thanks to Vince & Michele for running the matches last year and this. They've done a great job. Feel fortunate to get in this year's one match, with the virus taking care of things earlier in the season. Hopefully, next season will treat us better and we'll be be back up to four (4) matches, including a 60-shot regional/state championship. Fingers crossed.

Vince was too kind about the wind. It was fast enough and switched directions quickly enough that reading the mirage was pretty near impossible. I took a pic with the target flag dead left and the 200yd flag dead right, which was pretty much how it was once we got to the 600yd line. As Gary Ireland said, "I just shot thru it." With a 45-90 and 540gr bullet, that is something that works better at 600yd then with 40cal or 38cal bullets. His nice 95-3X at 600yd is only two points off the range record and done so in some fairly 'stiff' conditions. The two irons MWs were shooting a 45-90. That tells us something about what works best in the wind. Big & heavy.

More next season.

Forgot to mention our "match within the match". WillF had no mercy on his dear Aunt Lynn and took her to the cleaners by a single point. Good shooting Will. If I know Lynn, she will be seeking revenge (maybe as early as this Saturday at the Shippensburg 60-shot match).
Also, Vince & I were shooting our new 38-55s for the first time at a target match. Vince has only had his for a week or two while I've had mine a couple of months and the time I've had to develop loads was evident on the score cards. Vince is a AAA irons shooter, but this was his first time with a scope. My 200yd score was my first time shooting PP loads in anger. Worked quite well and learned a great deal about the 'logistics' of doing same that will be helpful when shooting PP in a BPCR match.
