What's the difference between a model 1859 and a model 1863?

Not so, according to the Bible (Seller's book) which shows '59s and '63s with and without patch boxes.
Slight changes to the rear sight were one of the differences, I believe.

I'de say that is correct for vintage Sharps, although my orig CW military '63 with orig buttstock is without a patchbox. I believe most the new production is patchbox on '59 model, none on '63s, but as in many things I may be incorrect
