Source for ring tail mould?

Post by Free_Stater »

I found the bullets for sale, but I'd like to have the ability to cast my own.

Anybody know who makes one? Neither Lyman nor RCBS websites list it, though at one time I believe that Lyman made blocks numbered 557489 for the Sharps.

Never mind. Buffalo Arms has the Pedersoli blocks, but for $117.00 I don't think it's worth it. I can get 200 bullets from the old Lyman 557489 blocks for about $60, and that would last me a very long time.

moulds

My 'Xmas Tree' mould was made by Rapine. I think NEI offers them as well.

I also shoot Lee .54 Minies with good accuracy. They roll into a good paper round.

There is nothing that is more satisfying than casting your own with your own recipe (lead, tin, or what ever). Jay Y.

I just got back from a midrange match, and over 100 miles of highway, combined with 72 rounds of heavy lead fired downrange means my brain seems to have pulled a hamstring. What is NEI?

I like the Lee Minie. It's relatively easy to cast, and yes, it seems to be designed for paper cartridges. I expect the ringtails will be considerably more work.

I'll have to ask Rob (Lockett, of Cast Meister) what alloy he's using for the ringtails.

I have a 540 gr .50 calibre mould marked NEI. I presume they make other moulds as well.
Look 'em up on Google ....

I knew I'd heard of them before, Todd, but it's been forever.

I found them, and I found the bullet in .540/475 grains, but I can't figure out their prices. Since they only take Paypal and various paper things like checks and money orders, I'll give them a call on Monday.

The mould number is 382, though they also have a ringtail in 525 grain.

That is the one I have.. Seems like it cost me $110.00 + shipping but that was sometime back. so things may have gone up. Got 2 or 3 NEI molds. seem to be good ones.
