Shiloh don't sell the nitrated papers nor the paper cartridge kit anymore. At least they aren't in the online store.

:) :D Hey Guys how are you all doing: I have to happy vent and there is no better place then here. Just an hour ago I became the owner of an near prefect !863 Shiloh Carbine (YES). Two years ago became the owner of a Brand New 1863 Rifle both are .54 cal weapons. Made a ton of paper cartridges and having fun putting lead down range. The carbine: I was just crusing the net when I came across this auction site(GunAuction.com). I bid the asking price of $1595.00 and won. How I own both of the best weapons that where used in the War Between The States. And to all of you guys that helped me out at the start of this hobby I say Thank You. Mike. 8) :)

This thread started with the discussion of bullet diameters. I was wondering what was the results anyone has had with the Dixie 54 cal bullet meant for use with the Perdosili 63?

Also has anyone giving these bullets a try?

I use the Lyman 54 caliber minie in my Shiloh infantry rifle. It works quite well. I nitrate my own paper and make my own "tubes" with it. Potassium nitrate is used in some kinds of "Stump Remover" that you can buy in garden stores. I forget which brand. but can look in the shed to see what I have. I have a couple of containers of it and would be happy to sell you one if you would like. Had to but 3 or 4 of them on the www to get any kind of a decent price on them. I keep a saturated solution on the shelf for when I need to make more cartridges. I've been using about 60 gtains of FFFg with the minie. Planning to try this with an original carbine this summer. Fun to shoot and no brass to clean, but cleaning the block takes time.

There is a channel, which I follow on YouTube called CapandBall.
His last video may be of interest to those with a percussion Sharps.
And just so you know, he is located in Hungary.
