height of front sight

Post by loophole »

I took my recently acquired .54 cal Farmer '63 cav carbine out to the range sat. Shot bullets from a pedersali pine tree mold, lubed with beeswax/neatsfoot oil mixture. I used some hahns tubes with 6o grs FFg, and hair curler cartridges with 70 grs. Shot at 50 yds off sanbags, barrel sights.
The rifle shoots about !-1/2" groups at fifty yards, till the barrel fouls, then starts throwing flyers.
Problem is the gun shoots 7'' high at fifty yds with 70 grs.
How can I raise the height of the front sight? By my calculations it needs to be about 4" high at 50 to be dead on at 100. that should take about 1.25" Higher
front sight. Does that sound about right? Any ideas how to accomplish this?
