Anyone out there happen to know the thread size of the tang screws on an original '63?

Would you mean upper or lower tang? As I recall, The modern Shiloh thread pitch are the same as the originals "as made in the USA". Jay Y. Hope this is what you mean.

The screws from the top tang to trigger plate are #10 X 28 tpi on originals and Shilohs.
Little powder much lead shoots far kills dead.

If that 1863 is an original, you should try "Lodgewood Mfg." as he may very well have an original screw. I've gotten a lot of Sharps and Spencer parts from them and they have been good.

I'm actually looking for longer screws than are required to secure the tang to the trigger plate. I want to mount a new base plate over the tang in order to mount a tang sight.I don't want to drill and tap the original tang and plan to use longer bolts to button up the whole thing. My carbine is a .50-70 conversion tack driver but my 65 years old eyes have a tough time with issue sights, even with my merit eye piece. The tang sight would work better and the temporary base would not mar the original tang.
