Paper cartridge rolling dowel diameter

Post by George Babits »

Back when I got my first Shiloh paper cartridge rifle, Droege gave me an aluminum dowen to roll the paper cartridges on. It must have been the same diameter as the bullet. Could someone please measure one aand post the diameter for me. This would be for the .54 caliber military rifle. Better yet, does anyone have one they would part with? I've been working with a 1/2" dowel beefed up with electrical tape, but it isn't working all that great.

Thanks,
George

A shooter asked me to make one for him. He asked for .545" diameter x 8" long.

That sounds about right John. I am using the Lyman .54 caliber minie as I learned a long time ago that they shoot great. So how much to make one if I can't find one?
