Last week I bought a 1863 Shiloh Sharps Carbine, Farmingdale, in .54 cal.
After talking to a few of you people and loadin some paper cartridges with a flat nose Buffalo Bullet and 60 gr of 2fg I have another question. When you push the loaded round in the chamber how do you know the bullet went in to the chamber and is seated as the only feel you have is the crushing of the paper end of the cartridge that crushed as it is pushed in and if the bullet is straight how do you know it will stay there when the rifle is bounced around when all that is holding it is loose powder and crushed paper? Does the paper glued on the bullet ever hold the bullet from seating all the way? I hope I have asked these questions so that you will know what I am talking about.

Hi Frank

I have a Ped. 1859 replica, All I do is drop the bullet in followed by 80 gr. of powder. I haven't gotten around to making paper cartridges yet. Either way you use you have to hold the rifle barrel down when putting in the load, this way you get the benefit of gravity.

I'm sure once some of the regulars see your post they will clear it up for you.

Good luck
