Guys,
Great can of worms. Page 80 of Sellers has a '59 carbine listed as available in .52, .54 and .56. Barrel of 22". Page 82 shows the 3 band musket (Military Rifle) as possible in .52 and .56 caliber, barrel of 30 and 36". I see the '63 series on pages 84 and 85. The carbine, (how beautiful, that massive lock and hammer) seemed pretty much standardized at .52 caliber. Barrel of 22". The rifle as well shown in .52 caliber. The Navy contract for the '59 was in .52, but some where I too have read of .58 military sharps in this series. Othet variations often turn around the acceptance of a bayonet and the type thereof, as well of minor graduations in the sights, among other things. A quick perusal of my "Round Ball to Rimfire..." illustrates recovered bullets and unshot bullets and cartridges with the variety of boxes in .52 and .56, the wild card here being the diameter of the bases, often in .547 for a .52 bullet.
No .58 bullets mentioned. I'm still looking.
I'll be back. Gregg
