Help - Please
Hello
can anyone tell me, how i can recognize a original shiloh sharps rifle ?
Where are the difference against (for example) Pedersoli?
Sharps Model 1863
Serial number 505
German Bombardment - ULM (means that a german authority has checked the weapon for security in the city Ulm)
I've no pictures
Bye

Cost is always a good indicator. You get what you pay for. However, what are the markings on the gun. Does it say Shiloh Rifle Manufacturing Company? Are there any other proff marks indicating non-US manufacturer.
Though it's not impossible to counterfiet a Shiloh, I've never heard of it. Most lesser quality rifles just list their name and maybe "Sharps". Look to see if it appears that a makers name might have been removed (ground off) and then the gun reblued.

Real Shiloh:
If its on like an e-bay site you have to be very carefull because there are a lot of scams going on right now where someone will put up something for bid like a Shiloh Sharps or a Harley Davidson motorcycle for a ridiculously low price. Some people go for it and get robbed. If they won't take payment through like a Paypal service where its guaranteed, be very carefull.
My 1863 Farmingdale Shiloh 3 bander looks just like my 1859 Ped. 3 bander only differences are the Ped. has a bushing or cylinder that moves inside the breech an the Shiloh doesn't move at all. Also the Shiloh has a gas plate on the breech facing side of the sliding block and the Ped. does not have it. If its such a low number I think it should say Farmingdale N.Y. on it on the leftside of the outside of the reciever, the serial number on my rifle is on the top of the reciever right where the stock meets it (5046) on the barrel to the left of the rear barrel sight its says 54 cal use Black Powder only, on the right side it says Shiloh rifle mfg. Co.
Hope this helps

Some of the VERY EARLY Shiloh rifles, And your serial number should fit in this era, are marked on the left side of the receiver with the inscription "SHILOH PRODUCTS" At the time these were manufactured, a furniture company was doing the wood work for Wolfgang and as a result the fit and finish are not as good as one would expect, although it is acceptable.
I hope this helps.
