Shooting a 54 short

Post by Charlie Hahn »

I have been shooting my 63 for about a year now, and have just made a straight bullet with a short ring on the back. I am using a hard paper tube about 1.1 inches long. It holds about 40 grains of ffg. This has a flat base, and when loaded it is about .12 inched short of the forcing cone. I have found that letting a straight bullet make this jump, has little affect on ignition and my groups at fifty yards are below 2 inches. Has anyone else tried this approach?
